Gotcha Day - Saying goodbye to Our pups

Quinn & Rover’s “Mac”

Gotcha Day. It’s a time that we look forward to, but also it’s a time for saying goodbye for us breeders. Luckily, the other side of it is a customer who’s happy to finally say hello to kick off this puppy’s new life. We love Gotcha Days, but they can also be really hard, and sometimes very difficult to plan for.

Preparing For Gotcha Day - A BReeder’s Perspective

From the moment we reserve a puppy and secure a pick-up date, it becomes a race to gotcha day. It’s exhilarating, but also can be exhausting for both us and our puppy buyers. We send out batches of emails to help our buyers prepare for welcoming a Red Carpet Doodle into their homes. We want them to be as prepared as possible before picking up the puppy, so that they don’t forget the necessities by the time the puppy gets home!

The last step before our puppy leaves, is to get them in for a final vet visit. This is to double-check that the puppy is in great health before it leaves our care and meets our puppy buyer’s regular vet. If anything at all doesn’t go expected at this vet visit, we notify our customer immediately. Thankfully, we hardly ever encounter any issues at this final health check, and our puppies can go home safely and healthily!

Gotcha Day - The Handoff

Whether it be a pick-up in-person, or via puppy nanny, we have to experience a handoff when we say our goodbyes. Some goodbyes are harder than others. Our older puppies especially are hard to say goodbye to as we’ve gotten to know them so well, and they have become a big part of our every day routines. Sometimes litters in general can be hard to say goodbye to. For example, we actually are saying goodbye to all 5 of Quinn & Rover’s Summer 2023 Litter this weekend. April will leave on Friday, and the other 4 will leave early on Saturday morning. As thrilled as we are for them, it’s also pretty jarring for us to say goodbye all at once to such sweet puppies who have been nothing but a joy to raise and look after. I’d be lying if I said I’m definitely not going to cry at this handoff.

Puppy of the Week

When we do find Connor a home, it’s going to be so difficult for us to say goodbye. But we’re so excited and ready to find his forever home. He’s really such a sweet boy, and we’re lucky to have raised him.
