Why You Should Keep In Touch With Us!

The following includes excerpts from the American Kennel Club’s expert advice column. The excerpts will be italicized throughout this blog post in an effort to give credit where credit is due! We read this article and thought we would share it with our lovely puppy adopters because it echoes our sentiment that we LOVE to keep in touch with our Red Carpet family! If you’re interested in reading the original article, it’s called “Why You Should Keep In Contact With Your Breeder” by Jan Reisen.

When you decide to take the leap and adopt a puppy from Red Carpet Doodles, you’ll notice that we have a plethora of testimonials and pictures of previous puppies. We don’t usually request for these things as we believe that if you’re truly happy with your newest furry family member, you should desire to do so all on your own! It’s important to us that we welcome the updates— we love to share pictures of our puppies on social media as well as encourage others to be a part of the Red Carpet family!

Reaching Out With Questions

Of course we don’t just hear from customers with positive testimonials and pictures. It’s completely normal to have questions, and we welcome our Red Carpet family to ask away! We get plenty of questions all the time, and are happy to answer, or use our connections to help do so!
Who better than the breeder to answer your questions and help you come up with solutions? As a new owner, you may feel that once you’ve purchased the puppy and brought them home, the breeder has done their part and now you’re on your own. But that’s simply not the case.

Responsible breeders care about the puppies and are interested in hearing what’s going on with your dog, good and bad. Not only that, but with their knowledge of the bloodline, the breed, and the puppy’s parentage, your breeder may have suggestions and solutions for pretty much everything to do with your new puppy.

Handling Major Life Changes

While our priority may be finding our puppies their FOREVER home, we can totally understand if something isn’t working out, or if there is a major life change that affects your ability to be an owner. If you have an idea of who could provide a great home for your pet, please just let us know, and we can make sure to record where our dogs are located and be in touch with the new owner.

We encourage family members, friends, and neighbors to take on care for your dog, but we will not abandon the dog or encourage sheltering them. If you cannot find another home for your pet, please return the dog to us. As reputable breeders, our priority is to help place them in the perfect home.

If this happens to you, don’t be afraid to call for fear of being judged. A breeder’s first responsibility is to the dog, and they’ll likely take the dog back and do everything they can to place them in a new home.

Making Future Breeding Decisions

By staying in touch with your breeder, you’re also sharing valuable information about your dog. Your breeder will want to know about any temperament or health issues your puppy has in order to make future breeding decisions. The breeder cares about breeding the healthiest dogs possible, and input from you is important.

We rely greatly on the input from our previous customers. We love hearing more about temperament, as we strive to know what kind of temperaments we will produce in the future. We also rely on your health input. A lot of health problems don’t even manifest until a year of age, and although rare, it’s essential for us to know as we don’t want to repeat a breeding that would cause health issues for our future puppies.

Conclusion

We are here for you! Whether it be a happy update, needing advice, or simply sharing how a vet visit went. We love to see the updates, and welcome them- we genuinely hope to see them for life, and even help you get your furry family member a second pal to hang out and have fun with. The updates are so meaningful to us- more than you’ll ever know. It makes what we do worth it!
