The Importance of Microchipping

Here at Red Carpet Doodles, we firmly believe in the safety of our furry family members. One of the perks of adopting from us is that we offer free microchips with the purchase of your Red Carpet Doodle. Our goal is to share with you guys what they do, why they’re important, and how they’ve blessed us along with our previous puppy adopters!

What is a Microchip?

To put it simply, microchips are tiny little pellets with a number that are inserted under the skin of your furry family member. When scanned by a microchip scanner, that number appears so that the dog may be identified. Will it impair your dogs’ life moving forward? Absolutely not. Do they feel it? Absolutely not. Can you easily feel or see where the chip has been inserted? Yes if you know what you’re looking for, but no if you are just adopting for a day-to-day life pet/companion. There truly is no downside to getting microchipping services for your animal!

What Does a Microchip Do?

Scanning a microchip just brings up a long number on the reader. But what information can be gathered from that number? When you register your microchip through a microchip registry, you’re able to attach your name, phone number, address, and other important information to the animal’s number, so that if they’re ever lost and scanned by your local pet shelter, they can know who to contact and get your pet back to you just as soon as possible!

Of course in order to function properly and be connected to your name, you will need to sign up with a microchip registry. Luckily, we’ve found a great microchip registry that’s FREE for you to register your pet to. Check out 24Pet to register your pet’s microchip. If you’re confused, feel free to reach out. Their website is relatively straight forward to use, but we’re happy to help you along the way!

Experiences with Microchips

We have had a few puppy adopters who have lost their pets, and thanks to their microchip their sweet companion was found! Sometimes when animals are sent to shelters, the shelters aren’t able to identify the animal unless there is a chip inserted. Unfortunately, animal shelters will only keep lost animals for so long. If they aren’t claimed, they will either adopt them out to a new owner or they will put the animal down. It’s sad, but it’s true!
